MSCA Global Postdoctoral Fellowships 2026: hosting at the DIMMS Lab

The lab can host the outgoing phase of a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Global Postdoctoral Fellowship, with Prof. Woldegerima as supervisor.

Applications closed on September 9, 2026

The 2026 call for Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) Postdoctoral Fellowships is open, with a budget of €399.05 million expected to fund about 1,600 fellowships worldwide.

Our role. The DIMMS Lab can host the outgoing phase (12 to 24 months) of a Global Postdoctoral Fellowship. Canada is a non-associated Third Country under Horizon Europe, which makes York University an eligible host. After the outgoing phase, fellows complete a mandatory 12-month return phase at a European institution of their choice. The fellowship is funded in full by the European Commission through Horizon Europe.

Prof. Woldegebriel Assefa Woldegerima will act as supervisor and will work closely with interested applicants to develop a competitive joint proposal.

Research areas we would be glad to host

  • AI and deep learning for infectious disease prediction, for example disease-informed neural networks for avian influenza forecasting
  • Epidemic and pandemic preparedness modelling (COVID-19, mpox, influenza)
  • Spatial epidemiology and the socio-environmental determinants of disease
  • Climate and health: how climate change shapes patterns of infectious disease
  • Multi-scale and immunity modelling, from within-host to population-level dynamics
  • Bayesian inference, MCMC methods and computational statistics for biological systems

Eligibility for the Global Fellowship route through the DIMMS Lab

  • European national, or long-term resident of an EU Member State or a Horizon Europe Associated Country
  • PhD held, or successfully defended, by the deadline
  • No more than 8 years of postdoctoral research experience
  • Not resident in Canada, and not carrying out your main activity there, for more than 12 months in the 36 months before the call deadline

Key dates

  • Call opens: April 9, 2026
  • Deadline: September 9, 2026, 17:00 CEST
  • Results: February 2027
  • Grant agreement: April 2027
  • Projects start: from May 2027

How to express interest

Email Prof. Woldegerima at wassefaw@yorku.ca with your CV and a short statement of your research interests and how they connect with the lab’s work. Please write well before the deadline so that there is time to build a strong proposal together.
